About Exhibition:

The vast ocean connects every land in the world. Since ancient times, people have discovered new continents and engaged in dialogues through the ocean and communicated with people in different places. Taiwan is an island, and its people are very hospitable. On various occasions, they often hold round tables to entertain friends and relatives from all over the world. Through the round tables, they can get closer and listen to each other's stories. Holding Taiwanese Banquet in different societies and countries inherently carries an exotic and decontextualized attitude. However, the Taiwanese style of banqueting needs to become a form of re-contextualization, like a montage. This spirit of mixing, hybridizing, and reintegrating reflects the island's inherent multicultural nature and innovative dynamism. Today's visual artists have more options and technologies to experiment in various fields and find creative subjects that can appropriately dialogue with them. They often deal with real and virtual environments, or past stories and fragmented historical texts. "Drifting Feast - Impossible Dialogue" is the first part of this series of international exchange and exhibition projects in cooperation with Jogja Fotografis Festival in Indonesia. We invite seven Taiwanese photography artists from different generations to showcase the diverse aspects of contemporary Taiwanese photography, from perspectives of identity, religious beliefs, environment and landscape. At the same time, the rich creative energy of visual creators is also presented through the photobook exhibition in Taiwan Pavilion.

About Exhibition:

"Fiber" is an ancient and contemporary craft and creative method, encompassing the making of threads to the weaving of fabrics. Countless techniques and technologies are used, inheriting rich cultural history and demonstrating the wisdom of different periods in human application of materials. The creation of works through the interweaving and fusion of various media not only incorporates material technology into life aesthetics but also transforms personal and family stories into symbolic and artistic works.

This exhibition, themed "Thousands of Threads", serves as the final chapter of the 2023-24 curatorial project "Crossing Ecotones". It explores the real-life settings, cultural origins, and natural ecology encountered in the creative process through the ingenuity of the artists.

"Crossing Ecotones: Thousands of Threads" not only showcases the beauty and form of materials but also aims to connect and dialogue the spirit of traditional crafts and contemporary art. Through diverse spatial installation artworks, it tells how artists from Indonesia, Korea, and various regions of Taiwan navigate between material research, technical inheritance, personal emotions, and cultural codes, transforming their works into poetic composites. Their thoughts and tactile perceptions traverse time and space within a multilingual cultural context, leading us to observe the present while reflecting on the process of social evolution.
